Coconut Cream… A Nu Found Luv

4 Aug

Well it surely has been some time since my last post! I’ve gotten busier and busier as the weeks go by, getting closer to the start of school! I finally slowed down a little to post…

I’ve been on this YouTube obsession for past few weeks and every time I see something nu or interesting on YouTube, I rush to try my hand at it. So far, I’ve accomplished crocheting weave, achieved a better blowout and have gotten some really cool ideas for makeup. I will of course be posting about all of these things in the days to come, so stay tuned!

One thing I ran across while on YouTube was this concept of a coconut cream relaxer /:) Yea I know what you all are thinking: “RELAXER!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOO WAAAAAYYY!!!!!!” and those were my exact sentiments too! I had to investigate though because there were many postings about this and either saying how wonderful it is or how it was a joke. In my experience with relaxed and natural hair, I have never heard of coconut of any form relaxing your tresses. I proceeded  to look further. The recipe is as follows:

2tbs Coconut Oil

1.5 – 2tbs Coconut Cream Concentrate

8- 12 oz. Plain yogurt

You mix all that together to get this thick, creamy consistency and then apply it to the hair.

Let set and then comb through and rinse (how long you let the mix set on hair is entirely up to you)

I found out that coconut cream concentrate is a finely ground form of the coconut meat. As the meat is ground it forms a paste like texture and has a 70% FAT CONTENT!!! Immediately, I’m blown away! 70% fat content is screaming moisture and curl definition. The “relaxer” recipe calls for 2tbs of the concentrate, which can’t be enough to relax your curl pattern. I don’t believe that this actually relaxes your curl pattern at all! Its look more like a deep conditioner to me. Coconut cream concentrate is pure fat content (no water what so ever is in this) and last time I checked, fat does not break the di-sulfide bonds of hair. I don’t see it physically possible for this to relax your hair at all. Even the videos I’ve seen have no evidence of relaxation. Look at it this way, when you apply Aussie conditioner,  for example,  to your hair, when you begin to detangle, you can do so with easy. Why is this so? Conditioners coat your hair, making it slick and easily allowing a comb or brush to run through it. Once you wash that conditioner out, your hair is softer, moisturized, usually manageable to some degree and your curl pattern is STILL INTACT. The YouTube videos I’ve seen produce the same results. Once the coconut cream mixture is applied to the hair, a comb, brush or fingers can easily pass through the hair (just like any other conditioner would do). Once the mixture washed out of the hair, YouTubers reported softer, more defined curls/waves/kinks/coils… the same results you would expect with any conditioner you would buy from the store. No one had relaxed hair, loosened curl pattern or a different texture! Its been deep conditioned at best.

I haven’t done this conditioning treatment on myself yet but I do plan to after I tweak the recipe a little lol 🙂 I think that this conditioning treatment will be excellent for anyone who has dry hair, lives in harsh climates or has damage. Here in GA, the heat is sometimes unbearable and very very very harmful to the hair. I can walk outside for 10 min and my hair is as dry as a desert, like I put no product on! GA heat is literally frying my hair!!! I’m very excited to try this out though! I’m hoping that it will give my dry hair more moisture and prevent that halo effect that I sometimes get (its soooooo annoying).

I hope that this post helps some and educates all. If you give the Coconut Cream Conditioning treatment a try, let me know what your thoughts are and how your hair responded to it.

ALERT! ALERT!! ALERT!!!

MAY I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE

VERY IMPORTANT NEWS TBA

DollFace Productions is going back to school babydolls! *snaps for the kid*  I am past excited, beyond pumped and totally stoaked! *fist pump*

As I posted yesterday, I have a few things in the works for DollFace Productions; plans for expansion, branding and TOTAL WORLD DOMINATION [EVL] LOL. Seriously though, I am building my empire from the ground up everyday so I’m taking it back to school. This time to get a Master Cosmetology license (along with a few other licensures ). Not only will I produce quality products for hair and skin, I will specialize in quality hair and skin care services primarily catering to naturals!

I know some may look at me and think “why in the world is she going to school for that?! She has a degree!” and to them I say: You can never have enough education. Yes, I have a degree from a four year school but that ONE degree doesn’t give me the keys to open every door in front of me, limiting myself  and making it that much harder to reach the top. Nothing will stand in my, especially not lack of education so YES I’m going to HAIR SCHOOL (insert urban dialect)!

Whatever you do babydolls, make sure you do it TOP NOTCH! Be the best at what you do and always ensure that your game is TIGHT and ON POINT. Learn as much as you can and take your skills seriously… to stay on top you have to stay ahead of the game. I encourage you all to follow your dreams and let no one talk you out of something because of their preconceived notions or qualms. This is YOUR life and you only get one shot… there are no do overs so don’t live with regrets and “coulda- shoulda-wouldas”. Do you and believe in yourself… the ‘na sayers will eat their words when you’re on top sitting OH SO PRETTY 😉

So today is Makeup Monday and I tried my hand at vlogging (video blogging) the application of my look…. it didn’t go too well. So I’m going to stick with the slide shows and music til I get it together on the vlogging.

This look was inspired by my babygirl Ivy (she is a cat). I found her under my car when she was just 6 weeks old. Someone had abandoned her in the dead of summer while it was scathing hot out (animal cruelty is NOT cool)!!!  She is one year old now and a true character! Ivy is a Siamese cat with crystal blue eyes and a chocolate mask. To say her look is exotic is an understatement. Sometimes her eyes change color depending on her mood and the lightening.

Hope you enjoyed it Babydolls! I promise to work on my video technique so I can post a tutorial of what I’m doing (plz be patient). As always any questions or comments are welcomed.

La-la-laAAahh Lavender Face Cleanser FEEDBACK

6 Jul

Last week I posted about the face cleanser that I whipped up. I’m coming back today with some feedback from a loyal product tester. She used it for a week in place of her Mary Kay facial cleanse for Combo skin. Below are her thoughts.

The face cleanser has an easy application and a clean rinse! I didn’t have that tight feeling like my skin had been stretched after using the cleanser as well. The lavender fragrance was a smidge over powering for my taste so maybe [she will] cut back on the amount of lavender oil used next time. My skin felt great, clean and refreshed. I had moisture without greasiness and the smell of the lavender is very relaxing.

I posted my thoughts on the original post so I won’t repeat them. I’ve ordered more supplies and once they arrive I can whip up another batch; this time my goal is to improve texture and viscosity. I would like a smoother textured cream with a thicker consistency. I also plan to cut back on the amount EO I used… I agree the smell was a little over powering. Lastly, I changed the name of the cleanser (subject to change again lol)… what do you think of this name? I think its short enough to fit on a label and catchy enough to attract my target market without being a gimmick. Feedback is needed PUHLEASE!

Until next time baby dolls!

Peace and Blessings

Its All in the Lips

1 Jul

One thing iheart about being a beautiful Black women is my thinkness. When I went off to college (CU stand up!) I was introduced to a saying: “She thick up bo!” (Shout out to “De Chuck”) Whenever this was said, you automatically knew that whoever it was said about had hips thighs and a round derrière. She was sexy and curvy… and I was one of those girls… right down to my lips . My lips are full and thick just like the rest of my body. I will never need fillers or injections, plumpers or Botox. My lips look good when they are glossed up (my lip gloss be popping lol), when they are bare  and even when I’m eating a meal. So today’s makeup post is all about the lips.

There are many things you can do with the lips. There are tons of colors you can try with different finishes and hues. I’m going to break down the 411 on the “lip lingo” for you Babydolls that dare to go there.

Gloss: a transparent cosmetic that gives a shiny appearance to the lips. It can be colored or nude. Depending on who manufactured the gloss, some may be scented or flavored. All glosses are not created equal however; because there is some type of wax in gloss, finding the perfect formulation is key. If a gloss is sticky, it may be old or just cheap. You want something that feels luxurious and silky when applied. I won’t say that  more $$$ equals better gloss; what I will say is that reputable companies produce better gloss. When it boils down to it, picking your favorite gloss is a personal choice.

Lipstick: a crayon-like wax or oil based cosmetic used to add color and definition to the lips. Lipsticks can either be sheer or matte.

Matte lipsticks are opaque and very rich and uber dramatic! If you’re trying to make a statement, then doll this is the ticket! Matte lipstick offers long lasting color… just be sure to swipe on some lip balm before applying your lipstick.

Sheer lipsticks are exactly that… sheer! These lipsticks are similar to gloss in that they are easy to apply and nourishing, however, sheer lipsticks don’t have as much shine as lip gloss. You will often find lipstick/ gloss duos in coordinating colors.

Lip Stain: a cosmetic product that contains a water or gel base and some colorant. These products must be applied quickly and accurately (as the name implies, lip stain will stain or mark your skin). When applied correctly, lip stain can give you that plump, naturally flushed lip look. Most lip stains are rosey or berry hued. To remove lip stain, use a cream based makeup remover like Ponds cold cream.

Lip liner: a colored cosmetic crayon used to define the shape of the lips. Lip liner also helps in the “staying power” of your lipstick/stain/gloss. It can be used as a filler or shader for those of us that have a darker top lip than bottom as well.
