ALERT! ALERT!! ALERT!!!

MAY I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE

VERY IMPORTANT NEWS TBA

DollFace Productions is going back to school babydolls! *snaps for the kid*  I am past excited, beyond pumped and totally stoaked! *fist pump*

As I posted yesterday, I have a few things in the works for DollFace Productions; plans for expansion, branding and TOTAL WORLD DOMINATION [EVL] LOL. Seriously though, I am building my empire from the ground up everyday so I’m taking it back to school. This time to get a Master Cosmetology license (along with a few other licensures ). Not only will I produce quality products for hair and skin, I will specialize in quality hair and skin care services primarily catering to naturals!

I know some may look at me and think “why in the world is she going to school for that?! She has a degree!” and to them I say: You can never have enough education. Yes, I have a degree from a four year school but that ONE degree doesn’t give me the keys to open every door in front of me, limiting myself  and making it that much harder to reach the top. Nothing will stand in my, especially not lack of education so YES I’m going to HAIR SCHOOL (insert urban dialect)!

Whatever you do babydolls, make sure you do it TOP NOTCH! Be the best at what you do and always ensure that your game is TIGHT and ON POINT. Learn as much as you can and take your skills seriously… to stay on top you have to stay ahead of the game. I encourage you all to follow your dreams and let no one talk you out of something because of their preconceived notions or qualms. This is YOUR life and you only get one shot… there are no do overs so don’t live with regrets and “coulda- shoulda-wouldas”. Do you and believe in yourself… the ‘na sayers will eat their words when you’re on top sitting OH SO PRETTY 😉

~Peace and Blessings

Quick Updates 7/19

19 Jul

Happy Monday DollFace!!!! I awoke to a bright and sunny day this morning! I hope that you all are having a very enjoyable Monday and that the day continues to be an awesome one for you.

Today’s post is very quick. I have a few updates for you all and an even bigger “To Do” list for myself. Great, wonderful, marvelous and awesome things are happening here at DollFace Productions. God has really put His hand all up in it and opened doors for me. I’m so excited for what’s to come! There are some things that I can’t share at this moment but rest assured that as they begin to unfold and take flight, I will be posting and updating you all.

So on to the updates: Well as some of you may have read from my Facebook page and tweets, the raw materials that I was so patiently awaiting finally arrived! I woke up last Wednesday morning to the sound of the screen door closing and the UPS truck pulling off… nothing as ever sounded sweeter that early in the morning LOL. I got to work immediately on a nu hair product (a post to follow shortly). It is currently in the hands- and hair-  of my eager testers, giving it a try. I’m very anxious to hear the feedback for this one!

DollFace is also currently undergoing a “move” of sorts. I’m running out of space here at my house to store all of my materials so to accommodate things, I am making space anyway I can and storing some things with a few good friends of mine. Production is still going to be a little slow while I transition through this so please patient and forgiving with me. Also, affected by this is Makeup Monday. Sorry but today there won’t be any pics of makeup looks. Not to fret though my dear, I will have some posted by the weekend!

Lastly,  I need some ideas/ input! I welcome all comments and suggestions. Let me know what you guys think, what you would like to see (makeup and product wise), any comments you may have. To kick-start this, there is a poll below for you to answer. I’m in search of a nu natural fragrance so tell me what your favs are and if your fav isn’t on the list then write me and tell me about it!

  • elf Lashes
  • BH Cosmetics 120 color palette 1st edition
  • BH Cosmetics 10pc Brush set

I think that’s all of it… I think 😕 I could be wrong 😮 YIKES! ….But on to the business at hand

So today is Makeup Monday and I tried my hand at vlogging (video blogging) the application of my look…. it didn’t go too well. So I’m going to stick with the slide shows and music til I get it together on the vlogging.

This look was inspired by my babygirl Ivy (she is a cat). I found her under my car when she was just 6 weeks old. Someone had abandoned her in the dead of summer while it was scathing hot out (animal cruelty is NOT cool)!!!  She is one year old now and a true character! Ivy is a Siamese cat with crystal blue eyes and a chocolate mask. To say her look is exotic is an understatement. Sometimes her eyes change color depending on her mood and the lightening.

So here are my pics of my Ivy Eyes

Hope you enjoyed it Babydolls! I promise to work on my video technique so I can post a tutorial of what I’m doing (plz be patient). As always any questions or comments are welcomed.

La-la-laAAahh Lavender Face Cleanser FEEDBACK

6 Jul

Last week I posted about the face cleanser that I whipped up. I’m coming back today with some feedback from a loyal product tester. She used it for a week in place of her Mary Kay facial cleanse for Combo skin. Below are her thoughts.

The face cleanser has an easy application and a clean rinse! I didn’t have that tight feeling like my skin had been stretched after using the cleanser as well. The lavender fragrance was a smidge over powering for my taste so maybe [she will] cut back on the amount of lavender oil used next time. My skin felt great, clean and refreshed. I had moisture without greasiness and the smell of the lavender is very relaxing.

I posted my thoughts on the original post so I won’t repeat them. I’ve ordered more supplies and once they arrive I can whip up another batch; this time my goal is to improve texture and viscosity. I would like a smoother textured cream with a thicker consistency. I also plan to cut back on the amount EO I used… I agree the smell was a little over powering. Lastly, I changed the name of the cleanser (subject to change again lol)… what do you think of this name? I think its short enough to fit on a label and catchy enough to attract my target market without being a gimmick. Feedback is needed PUHLEASE!

Until next time baby dolls!

Peace and Blessings

Temporary Hiatus

6 Jul

Happy Monday- no Tuesday DollFace! Hope all had an enjoyable $th of July… sun and fun WHOOOHOOO! I guess its back to work… or something like that. That is easier said than done at this moment. My creative mojo is stuck; production is at a stand still and I have become totally indecisive about EVERYTHING! I strive to make the best products that I know how that will produce quality results. It turns out that the more I know the harder it is to decide and lock down an ingredient. I mean there is a plethora of ingredients and techniques that I can employ to create my products. AHHHHH I’m pulling my hair out!!!! So for now I have decided to take a temporary hiatus to do some intense research and narrow my selections down to those “golden” ingredients. You babydolls be patient with me please. I promise once I get through this “block” I can begin cranking out more posts about quality product. See yah in a couple of weeks… meanwhile keep the comments coming and as always contact me if you have any q’s !!!

Its All in the Lips

1 Jul

One thing iheart about being a beautiful Black women is my thinkness. When I went off to college (CU stand up!) I was introduced to a saying: “She thick up bo!” (Shout out to “De Chuck”) Whenever this was said, you automatically knew that whoever it was said about had hips thighs and a round derrière. She was sexy and curvy… and I was one of those girls… right down to my lips . My lips are full and thick just like the rest of my body. I will never need fillers or injections, plumpers or Botox. My lips look good when they are glossed up (my lip gloss be popping lol), when they are bare  and even when I’m eating a meal. So today’s makeup post is all about the lips.

There are many things you can do with the lips. There are tons of colors you can try with different finishes and hues. I’m going to break down the 411 on the “lip lingo” for you Babydolls that dare to go there.

Gloss: a transparent cosmetic that gives a shiny appearance to the lips. It can be colored or nude. Depending on who manufactured the gloss, some may be scented or flavored. All glosses are not created equal however; because there is some type of wax in gloss, finding the perfect formulation is key. If a gloss is sticky, it may be old or just cheap. You want something that feels luxurious and silky when applied. I won’t say that  more $$$ equals better gloss; what I will say is that reputable companies produce better gloss. When it boils down to it, picking your favorite gloss is a personal choice.

Lipstick: a crayon-like wax or oil based cosmetic used to add color and definition to the lips. Lipsticks can either be sheer or matte.

Matte lipsticks are opaque and very rich and uber dramatic! If you’re trying to make a statement, then doll this is the ticket! Matte lipstick offers long lasting color… just be sure to swipe on some lip balm before applying your lipstick.

Sheer lipsticks are exactly that… sheer! These lipsticks are similar to gloss in that they are easy to apply and nourishing, however, sheer lipsticks don’t have as much shine as lip gloss. You will often find lipstick/ gloss duos in coordinating colors.

Lip Stain: a cosmetic product that contains a water or gel base and some colorant. These products must be applied quickly and accurately (as the name implies, lip stain will stain or mark your skin). When applied correctly, lip stain can give you that plump, naturally flushed lip look. Most lip stains are rosey or berry hued. To remove lip stain, use a cream based makeup remover like Ponds cold cream.

Lip liner: a colored cosmetic crayon used to define the shape of the lips. Lip liner also helps in the “staying power” of your lipstick/stain/gloss. It can be used as a filler or shader for those of us that have a darker top lip than bottom as well.

Pretty Girls Wear 20 Pearls… And Natural Hair

1 Jul

This post is dedicated to those Oh So Pretty Ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. To my 21 D.E.G.R.E.E.S of AKAtude, I ♥ each and every one of you more than I could physically express. You all support me and believe in me when I don’t believe in myself. I get 20 P.O.Vs for free and so much luv… I’m just overcome with emotion right now, even as I type. Thank you all for believing in me, being there, and supporting this dream.

To my neos, pros, and other Sorors, I thank you all for supporting my dream and vision. This post was inspired by you all; the ones that decided to forget the stereotype of what we are “supposed” to be and allow our natural beauty to shine; those of you whom know that healthy, long hair and beautiful glowing skin can be achieved; for those of us that appreciate what God gave us and finally want to experience freedom. Skee-wee my oh so pretty Sorors- natural and relaxed alike.

The purpose of this post is to give some insight into what natural hair is, how it works and how YOU need to handle it.

I have talked to many Sorors about natural hair – many of whom are transitioning-  and it was brought to my attention that most of them have no clue what to do with their hair if they aren’t putting the “creamy crack” on it. So for all you “transitioners”,  this post will help you tons.

First things first, moisture Moisture MOISTURE!!!! Water is YOUR friend! Despite what has been previously beat into our heads about keeping our hair as far from water as possible, water is not the enemy. We need to drink at least 64oz. of water a day; our body is composed of mostly water so wouldn’t it make sense that our hair and skin crave water too? FACT: Hair and skin are all apart of the integumentary system. Skin becomes dehydrated without enough water… the same thing happens to your hair!!! I know you may hate water or think that 64oz. of water is a lot to take in during one day. Let me break it down this way: 1 regular water bottle has 2 servings of water in it. Drinking 4 regular water bottles throughout the day amounts to your entire days serving of water. Try that train of thought for a few days and notice the difference in your hair and skin.

Secondly, heat is not your best friend! Step away from the flat-iron honey. Trust me, you will thank me later. Constant flat- ironing of your natural hair/ nu growth will lead to permanent damage, burning and breakage of your hair. If you always straighten your natural hair, you will permanently lose your curl pattern. No matter how much you cut or condition, the curl pattern is very unlikely to return. If you are dealing with frizziness, fly aways or unruliness, then try a curling pomade (with no mineral oil or petroleum) or a hair gel (with no alcohols) and a scarf to lay down your edges and fly aways.  Women of color have a chronic obsession with straight edges; with that obsession comes thinning of the hair line and baldness due to over processing with chemicals, excessive heat exposure and too tight braids or ponytails. PLEASE  abandon these beliefs and ideals about your hair. Your curly/wavy/kinky/coily hair is PEARLFECT just the way it is NATURALLY! God made us all in His sight and He never made a mistake. I mean everyone can rock a “side part under” but your natural hair has a texture and a curl/wave pattern all its own. It’s completely unique, one of a kind, just like your fingerprints. Embrace that! Love that! Accept that!  (unless you want to have bald spots and breakage for the rest of your life)

Lastly, all products are not created equal. Some products are so nourishing and just awesome for your hair. Other products are filled with nothing but junk and will do you no good. There are so many products out and so many more that are in the works and tons that are popping up on the shelves everyday. How do you weed through all of these products to get down to the ones that work best for you? Simple… read the labels! Look for things like shea butter, cocoa butter, coconut oil, mango oil, jojoba oil, essential oils like rosemary, sage, tea tree and WATER! If you have trouble reading the labels or understanding the ingredients in something, google it! Google is a great tool. If you still just don’t know (not everyone is a chemist, I know), then email me, tweet me, text me… what ever. I will be happy to help. Some things for all naturals to look out for and avoid are Mineral oil, petroleum, parabens, sulfates (SLS: sodium lauryl sulfate) and alcohols (isopropyl, benzyl alcohol, ethyl alcohol, methanol). If it sounds funky or suspect just ask or google it.

That’s all today. I’ll keep the tips coming babydolls. Again please contact me if you have any questions, comments or something you want to add. Follow the blog on twitter @DollFace_Prod

When life gives you lemons…

1 Jul

I ran out of face wash and I couldn’t reorder so again I took matters into my own hands>>> So about a year ago a good friend of mine approached me about getting into the Mary Kay business and from there I begin using a lot of the products that I sold. One in particular was the Classic Basic face cleanser for dry skin. It was creamy and smooth and never left my skin feeling dry and stretched after using. I thought I had hit jackpot gold! The only downside to this is that when I run out of it I have to reorder if I don’t have any in stock. I’m not the best at remembering to re-up when I get low so this is how I ended up in this predicament. Being the problem solver that I naturally am, I decided to make my own facial cleanser. I mean what’s the worst that could happen right? [SCROLL DOWN] to see the results!

Ingredients include honey, coconut milk and lavender EO. The smell is very very relaxing and when you use it in the shower its like getting an aromatherapy treatment [AAAAAHHHHH]. The cleanser doesn’t lather (no surfactants here!) like many people expect a facial wash to; the Mary Kay brand didn’t lather either. My lavender cleanser is rich and creamy. It isn’t thick and solid like Mary Kay’s version; its more like very heavy whipping cream consistency. The great thing about my cleanser is that the ingredients not only cleanse and moisturize but also heals!!! I had begun to break out due to the heat (GA is hella hot), my makeup and my allergies. The Mary Kay wasn’t doing anything to improve the breakout but my cleanser did!!! I have been using it for over a week now and I see such a difference; the bumps are gone and no more red blotches! Check out the pics below.

This side of my face was red and blotchy

I broke out on my chin with a blackhead right before using the cleanser

This side of my face had bumps.

So all in all, I think that I’m sticking with my cleanser and I’ve named it “La-la-la-lavender Moisturizing Cleanse”.
